If you run cold like me, you might prefer to have several lightweight jackets in your wardrobe. I always wear one when entering my gym, going into stores–that AC is frosty– and pretty much anytime after 6 p.m. in San Diego.
When the sun goes down, I grab a jacket. After living in sunny California for over twenty years I can’t handle cold weather.
Fortunately, there’s a ton of great outerwear to help with this issue. I love jackets not just for their warmth, but also because they help complete a look. I call them completer pieces.
The extra layer gives visual interest to an outfit. The right jacket can even help define a waist or lengthen the line of your legs.
Another reason you might be interested in a lightweight jacket is if you run hot. Hear me out! Many of my clients have this issue, especially here in Southern California. A traditional coat or winter jacket would overheat them in minutes.
In this case, you only need lightweight jackets even during fall and winter.

Athletic Jackets
Athletic jackets should be paired with your other athletic clothing. These lightweight jackets look best with leggings, bike shorts, and athletic skorts.
Alo Yoga International Anorak Hoodie
Need a cropped anorak for those rainy, but not cold days? Alo has you covered.
Sweaty Betty Fast Lane Peplum Running Jacket
This adorable jacket is perfect for runners. The white and lime green are great for visibility. It’s also cute enough to wear as an everyday jacket.
Lululemon Define Jacket

I love this jacket, the material is stretchy and it has a flattering amount of compression. If you’re on the petite side, try the cropped version here.
Lightweight Jackets: Denim
A wardrobe just feels incomplete if you don’t have a denim jacket. They’re the go-to piece when you need to tone down the dressiness of a look or complete a more casual outfit.
Levi’s Original Trucker Jacket
You will be delightfully surprised at the versatility of a white (or in this case off-white) denim jacket. Your closet doesn’t know what it’s missing.
AG Led Denim Jacket
This jacket works for women with longer arms. It doesn’t have that ubiquitous yellow contrast stitching so it’s more versatile than most jean jackets out there.
Faux Leather Jackets
Over the years, faux leather has improved a lot. Ten years ago I would have never recommended a stiff, plastic, pleather jacket. Nowadays, there are a lot of great options.
Blank NYC Faux Leather Jacket

One thing I love about this jacket is how easy it is to clean! I use my leather honey and a microfiber cloth anytime it needs to be refreshed.
Calvin Klein Jeans Women’s Faux Leather Moto Jacket
The lack of metallic hardware means you can pair this jacket with any jewelry combination. And it looks a lot more expensive than it is.
DKNY Faux Leather Blazer
This faux leather, open-front blazer is one of my favorite styles for apple shapes and women who are bigger in the middle. And its machine washable!
Leather Jackets
You won’t regret purchasing an authentic leather jacket if you don’t mind the cost or maintenance.
AllSaints Dalby Leather Biker Jacket
The AllSaints leather is amazing. It feels like this leather jacket should be twice the price.
Blanc Noir Leather & Mesh Moto Jacket
Now this is an interesting mix of athleisure, leather, mesh, and all things good. It runs small. For example, a size 6 woman would wear a medium in this.
Michael Kors Leather Jacket
This wonderful jacket is available in regular and petite sizes. In my area, a black leather jacket can definitely feel like too much before sundown. But this lovely caramel color can be worn with ease day or night.
Other Lightweight Jackets
This category includes light jackets that don’t quite fit the other categories.
Columbia Women’s Flash Challenger Windbreaker Jacket

I like this in the nocturnal (pictured), black, and mango color options.
Lightweight Jackets: Blazers
Though I personally have very little use for blazers, I’m still so attracted to them. Luckily I get my fix by putting my clients with more traditional work environments into these beautiful garments.
Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket
I am beyond thrilled that there is a Veronica Beard blazer with silver buttons this season.
L’Agence Brooke Double Breasted Cropped Tweed Blazer
Get the Chanel vibes in a more modern, less expensive version. Pair this with light-wash denim or light pants.
Rag & Bone Slade Wool Blazer
This is a perennial client favorite. It instantly elevates a simple tee and jeans look. It works best on women who are average height or taller. Skip this if you’re under 5’4.
